How to Remove Speed Limiter on Electric Scooter
What is an electronic speed limiter?
The electronic speed limiter is a safety device installed in the electric scooter, which can make the maximum speed of the electric scooter set within a predetermined threshold, so that the maximum speed of driving will not exceed the threshold you set.
Sometimes, depending on personal needs, people want to be able to increase the speed of the scooter. Of course, this requires removal of the speed limiter. Here's how to remove the speed limiter of an electric scooter:
Step 1: Confirm the position of the speed limiter
Before starting to disassemble the speed limiter of the electric scooter, you first need to confirm the position of the speed limiter. Typically, the speed limiter is located between the controller and the motor. If you're not sure where it is, look for the scooter's manufacturer's manual or ask a scooter repair expert for help.
Step 2: Remove the Speed Limiter Cover
The speed limiter is usually installed in a small box in the vehicle and requires a screwdriver to remove its cover. With the cover removed, you should be able to see the small printed circuit board (PCB).
Step 3: Identify Speed Limiter Location
There may be some components such as wire windings, resistors and capacitors on the PCB. You need to find the components related to the speed limiter. Usually, the location of the speed limiter is the easiest to identify, because unlike other components, on the PCB, the speed limiter is mostly represented as a resistor or a switch related to a specific value.
Step 4: Remove the Speed Limiter
Once you've confirmed the location and type of element of the overspeed governor, you can start removing the overspeed governor. Use a soldering tool to separate the speed limiter from the circuit board by soldering a soldering iron and squeezing the copper wire on the hot spot on the PCB. Before removing the speed limiter, make sure to insulate around batteries and other components that are exposed to heat to prevent accidental post-solder shorting.
Step 5: Replace or reinstall the speed limiter
If you just want to replace the speed limiter or reinstall it, at this point screw the cover back in a counterclockwise direction and you should be good to go. However, if you plan to remove the speed limiter, please take care not to exceed the speed limit to ensure the safety of your own vehicle and the safety of others.IMPORTANT NOTE: Removing the electric scooter speed limiter may cause the vehicle to exceed the speed limit and increase the risk of a crash. Therefore, do not disassemble it yourself without the relevant skills and experience! The speed limiter of the electric scooter is set to ensure the safety of the driving speed.
